Photo Trip #16: Snow in April

We heard from a friend of ours, who lives in Conway, NH, that it was snowing there yesterday - yes, she said snowing.  So, I thought that I might send some “snow” photos.

Snow is not always that easy to photograph - it tends to get a “bluish” tone on sunny days, if not exposed properly. On the plus side, if taken on a cloudy day, a photo usually looks like a black&white shot. Despite the way these two photos look, both were taken in color. I changed them to black & white to see how they looked, but liked the original color shots better. They were a bit warmer.

I like the “trees” photo very much.  It’s calming.  The shot of the gazebo is a good example of one of the general rules in photography called “the rule of thirds”.  It states that you should imagine superimposing a tic-tac-toe grid over the photo.  The shot is then separated into thirds both horizontally and vertically.  Then place the subject of your photo at one of the 4 points of intersection on the grid.  Following that rule, I placed the gazebo roughly in the intersection point in the lower left.

Like any “rule” it can be broken.

In any case have a restful evening.  Stay well.

D.T.
